Senator Rick Santorum Addresses AARP Question

NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFDTV) – During RFD-TV’s RURAL TOWN HALL, volunteers of AARP were in attendance to converse with 2016 presidential candidate Senator Rick Santorum. Former member of the executive council, Sharon Treinen, asks a question related to rural elders.

“My question to you relates to rural elders: there’s certainly increasing numbers in Iowa, and their challenges with housing affordability,” says Treinen. “Do you believe the federal government should provide financial support for assisted living in communities in rural Iowa or rural America?”

“This is a huge issue because as you know, we have the baby boom generation retiring right now and we have a growing number of seniors. People are living longer and using a lot more care and services as a result…” states Santorum. “What we’ve seen under the last few years is a dramatic expansion of the Medicaid system which, in my mind, threatens the, the core purpose of it.”

Watch Santorum’s complete answer in the video above and see how he addresses other issues important to rural Americans on RURAL TOWN HALL.
