GOP hopeful Rick Santorum spent the day in Iowa stumping for support

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) –With four months to go until the Iowa Caucus, Fmr. Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, is in a similar spot to 2012.

Currently polling at two percent, Santorum says he’s been here before.

“Four years ago, I was at two percent in the national polls, the week before I won the Iowa caucuses and then I went on to win 10 other states after we won Iowa” said Fmr. Sen. Rick Santorum. “The national polls had no impact on the people of Iowa [then] and I don’t think they will have any impact on the people of Iowa this time.”

In a true town hall fashion, the three-term senator spoke for ten minutes before fielding questions from Iowa voters.

He touted his foreign policy experience when asked about ISIS.

“I served eight years on the armed services committee, was a subcommittee chairman all during that time,” says Santorum. “The enemy knows who I am and I know who the enemy is. I’ve been featured in ISIS magazine as the only presidential candidate that’s been quoted and listed as an enemy by ISIS.”

But, questions from students weren’t limited to the terror abroad.

There’s more than a thousands students at Briar Cliff University, where tuition costs approximately $30,000. Nearly 99 percent of students apply for need-based financial aid,” according to U.S. News & World Report.

“What are we doing to kids with respect to the debt burden that they’re coming out of college with,” said Fmr. Sen. Rick Santorum. “That could be online, that could be community college where you get your basic course level done before you go into a four-year institution.”

One way Santorum says he’ll help pay off debt as Commander in Chief: incorporating a flat tax system that he says will grow the economy– leading to better paying jobs.

A plan he’ll announce in Texas on Monday.
